张闻天同志不仅是一位杰出的无产阶级革命家和理论家，而且也是一位优秀的作家、翻译家和评论家。为探索救国救民之路，他曾东渡日本，进而到美国，又北赴苏联，以他深厚的国学和英文基础搞起了外国文学翻译和评论，先后完成了50多万字译著和10多万字的评论，不仅对“五四”新文化运动起了推动作用，而且为我国的外国文学翻译和研究作出了重要贡献。
