A prominent issue of using oxygen and carbon isotopes from cave carbonate sediments as a proxy for climate change is whether its oxygen and carbon isotopic meanings are universal across the globe. This is directly related to the interpretation of the data and the reliability of the information obtained. A systematic study on five-year precipitation in Guilin showed that the characteristics of the oxygen isotope of precipitation in this area are mainly controlled by the source and nature of monsoon types and precipitation clouds.
