艺术设计属新设学科，社会发展与国家相关政策的规定对这一学科的成熟和发展提供了优良的环境。作为一门新近设立的学科，其自身不可避免地存在着一定问题：如学科建设较薄弱，教育观念不甚先进，教学方法与教育模式不够科学和完善，艺术与技术、基础课程与专业课程的关系尚未得到很好地处理等；同时，中、小学美术教育与高考制度也对高校艺术设计教育产生着一定程度的影响。本文旨在通过对以上问题的思考，分析、研究问题产生的原因，寻求出解决当代艺术设计教育若干问题的办法和建议。
