在山东半岛和辽东半岛间,有一群南北纵列的岛屿,象一根巨大的链条把两个半岛连接在一起,这就是庙岛群岛,也即是长岛县的整个范围。庙岛群岛历来属于蓬莱县,是神话故事中经常提到的海上仙山,真实的历史记载反而很少。从六十年代起,岛上陆续发现过一些战国时期的墓葬,开始引起人们的注意。近年来烟台地区文管会和长岛县的文物工作者多次调查,得知岛上有比较丰富的原始文化遗存。1980年初冬,北京大学考古专业的教师和研究生等一行五人,为配合当地文物普查任务进行考古调查
