设地层的真速度随深度呈线性规律变化:V(Z)=V_0(1+k)Z,那未无论采用曲射线法作图,或计算均方速度V_σ以求动校正量,均需要事先求出V_0和k值。不但一个工区应有一个统一的平均V_0、k值,以便于剖面图的闭合和构造图的连接;而且一个局部构造在提供钻探井位时也需要有它特定的V_0、k值来进行速度的水平变化校正。一般地讲,每进行一口地震测井或声速测井,都需计算出该井的V_0、k值以便于相互比较和实际运用。因此,V_0和k值的计算是一项日常而重要的工作。目前介绍的V_0、k值求法一般都是先从垂直时距曲线(Z~t)利用公式V(Z)=Z/t
