In the construction of online teaching resources, metadata interoperation has been widely concerned by people as an effective solution to the problem of the integration of online teaching resources. In order to improve the accuracy of metadata interoperability, we must have a clear understanding of all kinds of metadata in online teaching resources. We must make comparative analysis of various metadata elements or field settings, data structures and semantic definition. At present, there are three main types of mainstream metadata in online teaching resources: Dublin Core, LOM, and MARC. Most of the other metadata are formed on the basis of these three types or are multiplexed or extended. LOM is the learning object metadata; MARC is a machine-readable catalog of the library, which is a document bibliographic metadata.
