Alice Walker is one of the most prominent and influential American women writers in the contemporary literary world. In 1982, she published a representative “Purple” novel, a feminist novel, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature with her “Feminism.” The novel describes the miserable life of black women who lose their identity under the dual pressures of sexism and racial discrimination. However, they did not succumb to their own destiny. They found themselves through the search for black culture, established their own identities and ultimately liberated them. This article explores the black culture as an entry point, thus reflecting the importance of national culture in establishing the national status and realizing national liberation.
