经华中农业大学园林系与保康林业局商定,在83～86年间,对湖北保康县进行树种资源调查。由原襄阳副专员马长清,原襄阳市副市长,韩南鹏高级工程师(现任湖北副省长),华中农业大学陈志远副教授及由他率领的两位老师、五名研究生及86年毕业的九名本科生,与市、县有关领导、工程技术人员十余人组成的调查组,深入保康官九林区、荆山山脉及其他深山峡谷、溪河两岸的树种资源较丰富处,进行了调查。四年间,根据不同树种的不同花果别,分6期50余人次,野外调查100余天,共采集2500余份树木标本,初步鉴定,我县树木近百科约
