This paper reviews system integration needs in a digital radiology department, and open industry standards developed in the past two decades to address the seneeds.Inparticular, the Integrating the Hospital Enterprise(IHE) initiative defines a set of Integration Profiles in radiology, with a focus on the interoperability of the integrated systems, based on existing industry standards, such as DICOM and HL7.
