孔子其学宗旨在于对成德成圣的追求,而其成德思想则来源于其对“性与天道”的自觉。“性与天道”是孔子思考的重要哲学问题。孔子通过明鬼神之异,肯定人客观存在的现实性。进而辨人禽之别,明人伦责任,将人的本质属性界定为道德本性。在孔子看来,人的道德本性来源于天道,天是的人的道德本性的形上依据。从“仁者,人也”对人的道德本性的界定,到“知天命”“畏天命”的表述,再到“天生德于予”的自信,孔子从来没有离开对“性与天道”的理性观照。
