Climates to climate The work of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on greenhouse gas emissions from ships in international navigation is progressing. Marine Environment Protection Committee held its 62nd meeting in July 2011 (MEPC62) and decided to add a new chapter to Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Marine Pollution from Ships (MARPOL Convention) to establish energy efficiency design targets for new ships (EEDI). The Energy Efficiency Design Index is a technical indicator designed to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of ships on international voyages.
