1823年橄榄球运动诞生于英国,原名拉格比足球(RugbyFootball),简称拉格比(Rugby),而在美国则简称为足球(Football)。因其球形似橄榄,我国把这项运动称为橄榄球。1871年英格兰橄榄球协会成立。当时参加协会的17个俱乐部共同商定了比赛规则,参赛运动员每方定为15人。1895年英格兰橄榄球联盟成立,它是职业橄榄球运动的管理机构。联盟橄榄球的参赛球员每方为13人,比协会橄榄球的参赛人数少了2个前锋,比赛规则也有些差异。1995年是橄榄球联盟成立100周年,英国发行邮票1套5种,票图均为1950年代活跃于橄榄球坛的著名球星(图1见彩页)。
Rugby Football (formerly Rugby Football), or Rugby for short, was born in 1823 in the United Kingdom, or football in the United States. Because of its spherical shape resembling olives, our country refers to this sport as rugby. 1871 England Football Association set up. The 17 clubs participating in the association at that time jointly agreed on the rules of the competition, with each participating athlete set at 15. The 1895 England Football League was established, it is the governing body of professional rugby. There are 13 players on each side of the league rugby league, two strikers less than the number of NFL players participating in the rugby league, and there are some differences in rules. 1995 is the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the rugby union, 1 set of 5 stamps issued by the United Kingdom. The tickets are all famous football players who played an active role in football in the 1950s (Figure 1).
