The 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology of Physiology gave two scientists who contributed to growth factors: Rita Levi-Montalcini of Italy and Stanley Cohen of Vanderbilt University of the United States, . Montalcino has been engaged in neurological research for many years. She extracted a substance from the mouse salivary gland that had a significant effect on the sympathetic nervous system and subsequently proved to be a polypeptide, named NGF. Since then, and obtain the antiserum of nerve growth factor, which is of great significance for the future discussion. In addition to NGF, she also studied other growth factors. Cohen at the University of Washington, Montgomery and Montgomery had studied nerve growth factor. He accidentally discovered that injecting mouse salivary gland extracts into newborn mice prompts these young mice to open their eyes earlier and grow longer
