蒋光慈,1901年9月11日生,安徽金寨(厚属霍邱)人,厚名蒋儒恒,曾用名光赤、侠生等。1917年秋进入安徽芜湖省立五中读书,在一批进步教师的影响下,接受了新思想,积极投入五四爱国运动,并成为芜湖学生运动的组织者和领导者之一。1920年冬,蒋光慈加入社会青年团,次年被派往苏俄东方共产主义劳动者大学学习,1922年12月转为中共党员,1924年回国在上海大学任教。1925年,根据党组织的安排,蒋光慈离沪北上,在冯玉祥部任苏联顾问的翻译。期间出版了诗集《新梦》、《哀中国》,小说《少年漂泊者》、《短裤党》、《冲出云围的月亮》等,1928年与阿英、孟超等组织革命文学团体太阳
