The use of exogenous estrogen and cardiovascular disease is a controversial issue. Recent reports from the Framingham study suggest that non-contraceptive use of estrogens increases the cardiovascular risk in postmenopausal women. In contrast, however, some studies suggest that the use of estrogen may prevent cardiovascular disease because animal experiments and autopsy suggest that exogenous estrogen inhibits coronary atherosclerotic lesions. Most studies show that estrogen can fight or at least does not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this paper is to prospectively analyze the relationship between estrogen and cardiovascular mortality in large sample women. Methods: The participants in this study were all LRC subjects. The LRC (Clinical Lipid Research) is a cardiovascular disease epidemiological study involving 1972 clinical centers in North America from 1972 to 1976 with the aim of detecting blood lipids, lipoprotein types and coronary heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases
