Mr. Yang Shuhua, born in 1938 in Liulin Town, Guan County, Shandong Province, developed a deep love for the art of paintings while still young. In 1960s, he was a student of Mr. Huang Zhou, a master painter, and received his tutelage. In the past 40 years Yang Shuhua has traveled widely—into practically every mountain and across every river in the country and blazed an artistic path of his own—a compatible and complementary trio of a painter, a writer and a reporter into oneself who portrays both society and nature with pen and ink. In recent years his art works, which have been accepted by the market, have gone abroad. Apart from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Yantai, his solo exhibition was shown in Bangkok, Thailand and Paris, France. There is, in his paintings, no less of tradition than of modernity. He would not have his works bounded by predecessors while keeping to the traditional core. His style—free and fair in using ink—lends us an artistic beauty.
