1974年,甘肃区测队在古浪石城子一带发现含Dalmanitina的地层,化石由笔者鉴定。笔者于1976年提出石城子组一名,代表北祁连山东段上奥陶统斜壕组与下志留统小石户沟组之间含Dalmanitina等三叶虫的一套地层。当时将石城子组的时代定为早志留世。 石城子组取名于甘肃古浪的石城子,该地剖面由于黄土覆盖,当时未发现底部含Platycoryphe的地层,剖面厚仅6米。在红土湾南支沟剖面上,当时也未发现底部含Platycoryphe,Leonaspis的地层,还因未弄清地层走向上的相变关系,而把含珊瑚的砾状灰岩
In 1974, Gansu test team found in Gulangshizi area containing Dalmanitina strata, fossils identified by the author. In 1976, the author proposed a member of the Shichengzi Formation, representing a set of trilobites containing Dalmanitina between the Upper Ordovician Diaohao Formation and the Lower Silurian Xiaoishuangou Formation in the eastern part of the northern Qilian Mountains. At that time, the era of Shichengzi was defined as Early Sentry. The Shichengzi Formation, named after the Shichengzi in Gulang, Gansu, was covered by loess at that time.
