鞍杂杨是省杨树研究所优选培育的小钻杨乡土优良品种。它不仅生长快,材质好,病虫害轻,而且具有耐寒、抗干旱、耐瘠薄及耐一定程度水湿的特点,是一个抗逆性强、适应范围广的杨树良种。鞍杂杨是雄株无性系。树干端直圆满,树皮光滑,树冠卵形,侧枝匀称密集,树叶广卵形或菱状卵形。生长期较长,落叶期可延至10月末。鞍杂杨对温度有较大的适应范围,在全省各地均无冻害,生长稳定。对立地条件要求不严,虽喜生于土层厚、肥力高、有一定水分供应的土壤,但对于旱贫瘠的土壤却有较强的适应能力。鞍杂杨生长快,一般10—15年木材产量可比小青杨增产3—4倍,可比加杨增产0,5—1倍。全省各地均可栽植,尤其适合在干旱、半干旱较贫瘠地区栽植,可用其营造速生用材林、农田防护林及四旁绿化。
