周宁的文章博学而“文学”,《书屋》慷慨连载,作者有笔力,刊物有眼力。有关二十世纪西方的中国形象问题,不是没有人写过,但的确没有人像这样全面透彻地研究过。这一系列文章,不管别人如何看,笔者和友人们却是逐篇读过,而且常引作话题。如果不是最近偶然间又看到周宁发表在《厦门大学学报》2004年第1期的头题文章《汉学或“汉学主义》,笔者也不想动笔写些什么。 西方的中国形象,据说是西方文化的他者想象。二十世纪西方的中国形象,在人间乐园或人间地狱的两个极端间摇摆,最终不是“反映”中国的现实,而是“表现”
