In this paper, the effects of mouse peritoneal macrophages on the metabolism of VLDL_1 and VLDL_3, two sub-components of normal human very-low density lipoprotein (N-VLDL), were studied. Both subcomponents can be taken up and degraded by macrophages both in a receptor and in a nonspecific manner. In the receptor pathway in the intake of VLDL_1 majority. Accumulation of triglyceride (TG) to VLDL_1 strong intracellular triglyceride (TG) accumulation of VLDL_3 stronger. Indicating that the two have different roles in promoting the transition of macrophages to foam cells.
