原来科莫多龙这么“弱”科莫多龙生活的几座小岛是印尼最干燥贫瘠的地区,为了觅食,它们每天必须跋涉好几千米,从猎物的血肉中获取水分。而且科莫多龙的雌雄比例失衡,繁殖期的求偶竞争十分激烈,失败考身受重伤是常有的事儿。虽然科莫多龙是游泳高手,甚至可以潜入水中捕鱼,但是它们生活的岛屿四周水流湍急,使它们无法逾越,只能被“困”在那里,哪儿也去不了。“小岛统治者”的身份不但没给科莫多龙带来多少好处,反而让它捕捉猎物的难度大大增加。只要它稍微一动,猎物们就会四散奔逃。虽然科莫多龙的奔跑速度很快,但依然无法追上那些靠速度逃命的动物。野猪还经常和它们正面冲突,争夺食物和领地,公猪的獠牙甚至能杀死成年科莫多龙,对于它们而言,与其冒着危险捕猎不如享受猎物尸体。
