This paper reports that the biomass of aquatic invertebrates, which is an important live bait for fish larvae, contains about 50% of the protein, whereas free amino acids, together with the low-molecular-weight peptides, account for about 50% of the protein content. This allows fish larvae to digest live feed without substantial treatment with enzymes in the digestive tract.
