This article describes an integrated circuit single-sideband modulator that allows direct measurement of the amplitude and phase of any frequency of three decimal digits in the 10 Hz to 1 MHz range. Both modulators generate a suppressed carrier level adjustment upper sideband reference signal that is acceptable to the HP8405A vector voltmeter at a frequency of about 1 MHz. The other modulator produces a double-sideband replica of the test device output voltage. The vector voltmeter then measures the amplitude of the upper sideband reference signal and the test device signal and their phase differences.
