外国图书馆史属于世界文化史的范畴,也是理论图书馆学的一个重要组成部分。它在我国高等院校图书馆学专业中被列为一门专业基础课程。西方学者曾经撰写不少关于图书馆史的专书,其中几部已在大陆及台湾分别译为中文出版。我国学者杨威理也著有(《西方图书馆史》一书,1988年由商务印书馆出版。但上述书籍均以西方为主,而且时间下限一般只到1945年。南开大学图书情报系杨子竞副教授编著的高校教材《外国图书馆史简编》(南开大学出版社1990年版)则将范围扩至亚非拉三洲,所收资料截至80年代末期,从而构成了本书最大的特色。具体说来,该书的特点有四: 首先是比较全面地反映了各个历史时期各国图
Foreign library history belongs to the category of world cultural history and is also an important part of theoretical library science. It is listed as a professional basic course in the library science of colleges and universities in our country. Western scholars have written many books on the history of the library, several of which have been translated into Chinese in mainland China and Taiwan respectively. Yang Weili, a scholar in our country, also holds a book (“History of the Western Library,” a book published by the Commercial Press in 1988. However, all of these books are mainly in the West, and the time limit is generally only 1945. Nankai University Library Information Science Yang The compendium of the university textbooks edited by associate professors, “A Brief History of Foreign Library History” (Nankai University Press, 1990 edition), expanded the scope to Asia, Africa and Latin America and the data collected up to the late 1980s, thus constituting the greatest feature of this book. There are four characteristics of the book: first, a more comprehensive reflection of each country map in each historical period
