The pathogenesis of bronchial asthma involves acute, chronic inflammation. Although the exact mechanism of these inflammation is not well understood, it is reasonable to assume that immunomodulators may be beneficial for asthma. Colchicine binds to the integrin and thus alters the assembly of microtubules to produce a series of anti-inflammatory effects, including inhibition of cell motility and secretion. The authors investigated the effect of oral colchicine on allergic asthma patients on IgE-mediated immediate and delayed gas response and related non-specific airway reactivity changes.
