焦菊隐一生中最大的愿望就是做导演、排戏,发展中国戏剧艺术是他人生的支柱。可是“文革”伊始,他就被打成“资产阶级反动学术权威”,在遭受批斗和劳动改造中艰难度日。被迫远离艺术舞台的岁月里,他只能把所有的委屈和愤懑深深地埋入心底。就是在如此恶劣的处境中,他仍然对极左思潮下创作的文艺作品发表直率的批评,即使惹祸上身也不违背真正艺术家的良知。他在“文革”后期含恨而逝不能不给他所钟爱的艺术和热爱他的人们留下深深的遗憾。
