把需要拋光的工件、中間物、磨料放在滾桶里。由於滾涌的轉動,工件、中間物、磨料就互相摩擦。摩擦久了,原來表面粗糙的工件,也变得平滑光潔。这种表面机械加工的过程,叫做滾桶拋光,或称滾抛。 滾桶抛光可以应用於机械另件的表面加工和电鍍前的抛光处理。在电鍍工業中,工件表面的光洁度对於电镀层的質量有着重要的影响。我們知道,表面光潔的工件可鍍得亮,而粗糙的工件則鍍不亮。要使电鍍层光亮,必須先把工件拋光。不僅如此,电鍍层的耐腐蝕性能,也和工件表面的光洁或粗糙有關。表面光潔的工件,耐腐蝕的性能好;表面粗糙的工件,耐腐蝕的性能差。要使电鍍层的耐腐蝕性能良好,必須要有光潔的底子。
