The authors (Lin CY et al.) Conducted an epidemiological investigation and related laboratory studies on a new area of schistosomiasis japonica endemic in Hanpu Farm, Fangyuan District, Changhua County, Taiwan Province, from July to October 1987. A total of 705 snails were detected by escaping and squeezing, and S. japonicum cercariae were found in 17.0% of the snails. The positive rate of eggs of Schistosoma japonicum in feces, cattle, sheep and dogs was 4/16, 2/5 and 2/4 respectively by centrifugation with sodium tartrate-ether-trinitrotoluene.
