GM Locomotive Manufacturing Group has developed a new type of computer that has expanded its capacity and enhanced locomotive control to replace the one currently used on GP60 locomotives. A 32-bit microprocessor forms the heart of the monitoring and control unit. The monitoring and control unit features six-wire cab display and improved diagnostics. The microcomputer is designed for maximum flexibility, reliability and expanded capacity. The only central processing unit (CPU) combines excitation, display and logic functions, reducing the number of logic components. The high-voltage and low-voltage circuits are combined separately to improve the shielding of the central processing unit to further improve reliability.
