A recent report from South Africa shows that the newly developed polycrystalline diamond (PCD) drill has a drilling efficiency equivalent to twice the drilling efficiency of a carbide drill. The expanded field trial conducted by the Johannesburg Diamond Tool Works in South Africa showed that the new PCD drill drilled with air had a steady drilling efficiency of 1 meter per minute in soft to medium hard formations such as sandstone, shale and limestone.
