The FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research sent health professionals a public health alert regarding the use of flu medications. Patients diagnosed and treated for flu will consider whether to use the four recently approved treatments, with Amantadine (symmetrel: Endo) and rimantadine (Flumadine: Forest) listed for years in the United States. The other two drugs, zanamivir (Relenza: Glaxo Wellcome) and oseltamivir (Tamiflu: Roche), have attracted interest for their specific antiviral activity.
