Since 1960, people know Epilepsy (EP) patients with phenytoin treatment, the serum thyroid hormone levels can be reduced. After 1970, it was also noticed that the treatment of carbamazepine (CBZ) in EP patients also caused a change in thyroid hormone balance. Serum thyroxine (T_4) and free thyroxine (FT_4) concentrations were consistently low during CBZ treatment, but there was no change in serum thyrotropin (TSH) values.
