In 1978, the United States Army Missile Command launched a study on the advanced missile guidance and control system for the future. The aim of this work is to develop a control system that is significantly more advanced than currently developed systems to meet the rigorous requirements and constraints of the predicted 90s and beyond target characteristics and battlefield environments. In this article, the issues to be discussed are redefined and the latest research plan introduced. Some of the progress made thus far is described, in particular the progress made in the mathematical models of missiles and their guidance and control systems used in analysis and simulation, aerodynamics, power plants, guidance under development and research Rules, Interference Adaptive Control Theory, Target Detection and Tracking Information Processing, and Digital Design Tools. This article concludes with a description of the future plans.
