Bacterial contamination of platelets is the most dangerous factor in the risk of pathological and mortality of platelet transfusions. In some European countries, routine bacteriological monitoring of platelets has begun to reduce the risk of bacterial contamination. A preliminary study conducted by Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Center using the BacT / ALERT automated culture system to assess the maneuverability of routine bacteriological monitoring of platelets. About 4,885 platelet concentrates (PCs) were tested over a one-year period. Of these, 28 (0.57%) were positive for the first time and 13 (46%) were positive for culture again. Of these, 10 are aerobic or aerobic
