今年三月九日我国知名的植物学家蔡希陶同志不幸病逝,凡是熟悉他的人无不深感悲痛。希陶同志虽然离开了我们,但他那艰苦奋斗,自强不息的精神,仍然激励着我们,在祖国四个现代化的道路上前进。刻苦自学的好典范在旧社会,求学是很难的。因为家贫,希陶只读了一年大学,就不得不中途辍学,寻找职业谋生了。1923年,他以优异的成绩,考入北平静生生物调查所,担任采集工作。那一年,他仅仅20岁。入所后,他仍坚持刻苦自学,补习了“植物学”和“分类学”等基础课程,阅读了大量的科学家旅行札记,这使他对大自然和标本采集
March 9 this year, China’s famous botanist Comrade Cai Xitao unfortunately passed away, all those who are familiar with him deeply saddened.
