美国的高中生可以选外语课,中文课也是之一。按《洛杉矶时报》的说法,对以英语为母语的中学生而言,学习中文犹如飞越一座雄伟的长城,能称得上是“好汉”的人不多。大多数学生在遥望“长城”之初,就决定放弃“不到长城非好汉”的决心了。大多数中学生还是选择与英语相近的外语作为第二外语。以美国加州为例,开设西班牙语课的高中有850间,共9.3万名高中生选课;而开设中文课的却只有35间高中,选课学生1900人。在加州的华人是全美最多的,可以想像,在其他州
High school students in the United States can choose foreign language classes and Chinese classes are also one of them.
