中单2号是中国农科院1973年用“莫17”作母本,“330”做父本选育而成的。1977年开始引入我省,先后在成县、徽县、泾川和天水等县种植,结果表现良好。1980年组织全省示范推广,示范、种植面积达2万7千多亩。同年8月在全省玉米观摩会上公认为目前种植和示范品种中最好的一个。1981年全省共播种20万亩以上。特经特性:株高297厘米,穗位高133厘米;茎秆坚硬;果穗长筒形,穗长25厘米,穗粗4.2厘米,穗行数14—16行,穗轴红色;籽粒黄色,马齿型;千粒重330—350克,出籽率85％。抗大斑病、丝黑穗病、黑粉病和青枯病;抗倒伏,丰产性好;生育期130—150天,属中晚熟品种。
