刘师培(字申叔、号左鑫,1884～1919)去世后,遗作散于四方,好友南桂馨1934年起出资搜集整理,直至1938年才全部刊行,题为《刘申叔先生遗书》。全书收入刘师培著作74种,其中论群经及小学者22种、论学术及文辞者13种、群书校释24种、诗文集4种、读书记5种、学校教本6种,除一些白话文和论无政府主义的著述以及个别佚文外,可说是网罗殆尽,极大方便了学界的刘师培研究。该书之编定,钱玄同出力甚多,“佚稿之旁搜,总目之编次,胥由公力疾任之。”而且钱氏还为总目写了不少说
