西德煤矿大断面岩巷及半煤岩巷道多采用金属支架支护,每架金属拱梁重达100～00kg,为减轻工人体力劳动,提高支护效率,多采用支架安装机械进行组装。巷道掘进若使用部分断面掘进机,则可利用截割臂的升降将支架拱梁顶至预定的位置,将两侧支腿用螺丝把紧。若采用钻爆法施工,则使用支架安装工作台安装,一次可顶起3～4袈拱梁,安装方便、迅速并节约大量人力。西德KBI和GTA公司生产的金属支架安装工作台,常用的技术特征见表一。
