近几年来,大花蕙兰异军突起,使我们看到了兰花中崭新的一族。在株形上,它既具有国兰飘逸高雅的神韵和气质,又一改其叶片纤细、株体小巧的风格,植株高大气派,叶片宽阔舒展,株高可达1.2～1.5米左右,即使在无花的季节,也很有观赏价值。在花形和花色上,它保留了普通蕙兰一葶多花的特性,但花序硕大,每朵小花直径也在10厘米左右,而且花色绚丽丰富,是普通蕙兰根本不能比的。特别是开花期在12月至翌年4月,正值元旦至春节这段时间,观花期又长(在室温不超过18℃的条件下,可以长达2～3个月),因此较其它洋兰更容易被中国消费者所接受。
