1937年“七·七”事变爆发,打破了我专心求学的愿望。当时党已在我的家乡河北平山县建立了村政权,成立了各种抗日救国的群众团体。经一位区青救会的同学介绍,我担任了村青救会主任,领着儿童团站岗放峭、查路条、唱歌跳舞搞宣传,干得很带劲。第二年4月底,县青救会“铁血剧社”(晋察冀边区群众剧社的前身)成立,我被调去,从事抗日救亡宣传工作。从这时起,我便正式从事文艺工作了。在剧社里不但要演戏、唱歌,跳舞,还要编写节目,当指挥、教唱歌、做辅导工作,办文艺训练班,演出宣传搞得很活跃。那时剧社的人不多,都是十几岁的孩子,没有女演员,我还演过不少女主角。八路军首长看了我们的演出后,为我是男是女还打过赌。我就是
