农八师一二二团场位于准噶尔盆地南缘，历年平均≥10℃积温3618．6℃，无霜期163天，属宜棉区范围。但是，早春气温回升慢，秋末气温下降快的特点，限定了这个区域只适宜种植早熟陆地棉。1995年，一二二团场与石河子棉花研究所协作，引进了该所选育的陆地棉新品种“新陆早8号”
