元代虽然只有短短不到一百年的时间,但在绘画上却是继宋代之后的又一个高峰,且是个绘画风尚骤转期。和宋代的“写实”相比,元代的绘画呈现出强烈的“写意”性。对后世绘画影响甚大。元代绘画之所以在宋的基础上出现这样的转折,很大一部分原因是元代所实行的民族歧视和民族压迫政策,逼迫着一部分民族意识强烈的知识分子选择了“亲近自然,隐迹山林”的生活,生活境遇的改变导致了思想观念的改变,并最终导致了绘画风尚的转型。
