1987,法国导演莫里斯·皮亚拉去戛纳领奖时,对着台下的口笛手们说:我知道你们不喜欢我,我也一样,我也不喜欢你们!23年之后,戛纳电影节对着所有喜欢看奥斯卡的观众说:我知道你们不喜欢我,我不一样,我喜欢你们。在它的官方网站上,戛纳增加了除盲文之外的其它六大语种,包括简体中文,它甚至要做“环球时报”:瞄准环球受众(目标是41亿人),实时报道戛纳新闻(现场直播)。这种平民化的姿态甚至影响到评审主席的人选,在记者发布会上,当记者问道,为什么今年是蒂姆·伯顿——电影节艺术总监特里·福茂的回应是,“这是一位大众化导演,因为他贴近普通大众。”戛纳从未与普通观众如此贴近,还有那些电影……戈达尔今年干脆带来一部《电影社会主义》。问题是,《社会主义》里都是什么人?他们是战犯,前联合国官员,侦探,哲学家,音乐人和摇滚乐评论家。社会主义普罗大众,没有一个。这才是戛纳的本质,或者说戛纳电影的本质,它注定远离大众。所以要问,它今天所做的一切,能改变大众对它的看法吗?Nope,Cannes cannot.

Godard this year, simply brought a ”movie socialism.“ The question is, what are the people in ”socialism"? They are war criminals, former UN officials, detectives, philosophers, musicians and rock-roll critics. There is no one for the general public in socialism. This is the essence of Cannes, or the essence of Cannes, it is doomed to stay away from the general public. So to ask, what does it do today can change the public’s perception of it? Nope, Cannes can not.
