土壤侵蚀引起表土流失会导致作物产量的下降。哥伦比亚的农业学家F .A .Fl¨orchinger等人研究清除 5、10、13和 4 0cm表土对高粱、花生和木薯产量的影响。该试验在热带农业国际研究中心 (CIAT)试验站进行。试验地土壤为非结晶的高岭石形成的不饱和热带始成土 ,排水良好。由表层土的流失所导致的有机质的减少是作物产量显著降低的关键因素。肥料不能恢复土地的生产力。表土流失的加快使铝处于饱和状态 ,严重抑制了作物生长
Loss of topsoil caused by soil erosion can lead to a decline in crop yields. Colombian agronomist F. A. Hollinger et al. Studied the effects of removing 5, 10, 13 and 40 cm of topsoil on sorghum, peanut and cassava yields. The trial was conducted at the CIAT pilot station. The soil in the experiment was an intact tropical kaolin formed from non-crystalline kaolinite, which was well drained. The reduction of organic matter caused by the loss of topsoil is a key factor in the significant reduction in crop yields. Fertilizer can not restore the productivity of the land. The accelerated loss of topsoil saturates aluminum and severely inhibits crop growth
