This paper provides two methods for calculating the seismic load of industrial and civil buildings: the simple method and the accurate method. According to the theory of seismic load, it is necessary to find the structure’s self-vibration period and its vibration form before calculating the seismic load. This is too complicated for the design of general buildings, because the cycle and form of high-order vibration mode are not easy to determine. The simple method is proposed to avoid the calculation of high-order vibration modes. It only requires the determination of the basic cycle of the structure. As we all know, the basic cycle can be calculated using an approximate formula, and it can even be estimated from measured data, and it does not have to be calculated. In general, the convenience method has sufficient accuracy.
