In a number of contractual documents reflecting the real estate transaction in South Canton High Street in the late Qing Dynasty, some cases of female participation in the sale and purchase process emerged. Through the analysis of the contents of the relevant contracts, it is found that some high-street women who are mainly widowed widows (widow wives) are able to use the multiple identities of “buyer”, “seller” and “middleman” Trading plays an important role, with a high social status. Although it is a passive behavior in a specific situation, to a certain extent, it reflects the economic initiative of women under the male patriarchal system of traditional society.
