为了团结人民共同抗击日本帝国主义,桂林儿童以音乐为武器,通过各种形式宣传抗战:开展歌咏演唱活动,宣传团结抗战思想;创造岩洞教育形式,激励民众爱国热情;用战斗歌声慰问伤兵,鼓舞军民抗战斗志等。抗战时期的桂林儿童音乐活动,表达了孩子们对祖国的热爱,对日本帝国主义的仇恨,从一个侧面揭示了中华民族万众一心抗击外来侵略的民族精神。
