Zinc is a very difficult metal to be reduced, so the reduction of zinc oxide is carried out in a tank (sleeve). The contents of the tank are not in contact with the furnace gas, but rather indirectly through the conduction of the tank wall. The resulting zinc vapor is directed from the tank into a special vessel-condenser for condensation. Part of the zinc vapor that is not condensed into liquid zinc forms a zinc-blue powder that can be collected in the extension tube.
