The sedimentation of Upper Sinian carbonate rocks in northern margin of the middle Yangtze platformtook place in two facies areas: shallow-water platform and deep-water platformbasin, which includedseven facies zones. A close relation was revealed geochemcally between the Sr content and the ratioSr/Ca×1000 and the sedimentary environment, i.e. they increase obviously from shallow-shoal facies todeep-water platform-basin facies. This is owing, on the one hand, to the influence on the Sr distribuhonby the difference in carbonate mineraogy in different sedimentary environment; and on the other, to thediagenetic environmnt dePending on the sedimentary environment The content of the trgne element Srand the ratio Sr/Ca × 1000, therefore, can be used for the discrimnation of sedimentny facies.
